The Giftable Seeds Guide

With Giftable Seeds you now have another way you can plant crops! Usually set for special Limited Edition crops like the Black Rose, Giftable Seeds allow farmers to gift seed packages to one another for planting. Or, if they want to skip that part, they can just buy them in the Market (for Farm Cash).

And the Black Rose is now available for gifting (for a limited time)!

Gifting Seeds

You can give your neighbors Giftable Seeds by visiting the Free Gifts tab in FarmVille and selecting the seed package to gift. They’ll look like this (we’ll use the Black Rose as an example for the rest of this guide):

 

You can also receive seed packages from your neighbors—but they do not go directly into the Gift Box (see below). Seed packages will also be available for sale in the Market for Farm Cash.

Using Seed Packages

Each seed package gives you X number of seeds to plant as crops, so a Black Rose seed package comes with 20 seeds. When you receive or buy a seed package, the number of total seeds shows up on a counter in the entry for that crop in the Market (and they don’t show individually in the Gift Box). For instance, if you received four Black Rose seed packages from neighbors and bought an additional seed package with Farm Cash, the Market counter for the Black Rose will show 100:

As you can see the entry for the Black Rose is a little different than other crops. Instead of a “Buy” button you have options to “Use” or “Get”. “Use” will immediately put you into seeding mode, which works for seeding for individual plots or using a vehicle like the seeder or super combine. (The "Use" button won't show up if you don't have any to use.) You can plant as many crops as you have seeds—if you’re using a vehicle that seeds multiple plots at the same time it’ll use up whatever seeds you have left and stop seeding (in other words, it won’t automatically buy another seed package to make up the difference).

The “Get” button will take you to the purchase window, where you can choose to buy any number of seed packages:

From this window you can click on “Ask for more” to post a notice on your Facebook feed asking for seed packages.

Wednesday's FarmVille Update

We wanted to give a head's up about last night's update, where we added a few items to the Market, including a new costume (the winner from our forum costume suggestion contest), a new free gift, and the return of the train track set from the Wild West theme (so you can build your Halloween train sets):

We've also made it so that you can now store this year's Haunted House, so when you're done with Halloween you can just pack it away for next time. Note that if you're in the middle of a building phase (say you're halfway between stage one and stage two), the Haunted House will store as the last completed stage and all of the remaining construction parts will go into your Gift Box.

Re-Tricking Your Farm

Did a bunch of your neighbors Trick out your farm but you'd rather have the webs on another bunch of trees or maybe you don't really want that Count Duckula ghosted? Well, you can easily redistribute these effects without having to pay for anything extra. Here's how.

Below we have a standard Halloween situation: my generous and understanding neighbors have filled my strand of trees with cobwebs.

However, I'd really want to make a ghost out of my Himalayan Cat. And I don't need all of these cobwebbed trees... well I can just click on one of these trees and select "Clean Up Trick":

And the tree is back to normal. Now I can go find my Himalayan Cat and click on him. From the menu I just need to select "Spookify" and voila! He's now a ghosted Himalayan Cat.

You can do this for as many times as you want for Halloween, on anything you can apply a Spooky Effect to (on your own farm).

The Animal Feed Trough Guide

With the introduction of Animal Feed Troughs you can now purchase a new building for your Farm that, once full of animal feed, can attract one of a number of atypically available animals which you can adopt for your farm. Once you adopt one, your Feed Trough will need to get filled up again in order to attract another farm animal.

We'll be shifting what animals will be coming around soon, so get them now or you may not have another chance!

Feeds and Troughs

The next time you log into FarmVille after the update you’ll receive an Animal Trough to place on your farm. If you do not choose to place it now it will go into your Gift Box for placement later. Once you click on the Animal Trough and choose “Look Inside” you’ll see this window:

Next you’ll need to get the Animal Trough filled—it’ll take 20 units of Animal Feed to top off the Trough. You can acquire Animal Feed one of two ways—you can buy it by clicking on the “Buy Feed” button and purchasing Animal Feed one unit at a time for 1 Farm Cash each. 

When your neighbors visit your farm, they can click on your Animal Trough to give you one unit of Animal Feed (or, if you visit them, you can click on their Animal Trough and gift them a unit of Animal Feed). If you click on the “Ask For Feed” you’ll be prompted to put a notice up on your Facebook feed asking for more Animal Feed. You can also acquire more Animal Feed through feed posts.

The Animal Feed Trough window shows visually how full your Trough is, and has six mug shots of the animals known to be nearby that may wander onto your farm. Animals will drop out of the rotation eventually and new animals inserted, so the six won’t stay the exact same for long.

The visual state of the Animal Trough changes as it fills up with Animal Feed:

Adopting a new farm animal

Once the Animal Trough is filled with Animal Feed you’ll get this notice:

Sometime in the next day or so an animal will stop by and enter the Animal Trough. You’ll be able to tell by the fact that the light above the building entrance is green, the doors are closed, and the feed has been drained (see comparison image above). If you visit the Animal Trough in time, you will be successful in adopting the animal for your farm (and you’ll have the option to share one with your neighbors):

All of your Animal Feed will be used up and you’ll need to fill your Animal Trough back up again to get another animal.

However, if you wait too long (more than a couple of days), the animal will go away. You’ll see this window instead:

By losing the animal you’ll only lose 2 units of Animal Feed, so you’ll have 18 units instead. The mug shot board in the Animal Trough will reflect which animals you’ve adopted and which still remain to be adopted.

Today's Halloween Update

The Halloween Limited Edition theme hasn’t left the station just yet, Farmers!  Tonight’s update features items like the Halloween Train (tracks coming soon!), Franken Gnome, Franken Bride, and the Nightmare! 

The Mystery Game has also been restocked with an all new Gothic theme! Will you be able to win the cute Panther Cub?

We've also updated the mechanics behind the Special Delivery Boxes as they should give you a bit more variety than before.
